Free Admission to Betty Brinn Children’s Museum on Thursday 2/18

betty-brinnOn Thursday evening, February 18, 2010, admission to the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum is free as a part of the WaterStone Bank & FOX 6 Neighborhood Nights program. From 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. museum visitors will receive free admission.

The Betty Brinn website mentions the following special activities will be held during the event:

  • AWEsome Art! (5:00 – 8:00 P.M.)
    Join Museum educators and professional artists from Artists Working in Education to create a unique piece of art to take home, and help create a collaborative art piece for display in the Museum. See a new collaborative art piece display on March 18. For children ages 3 and older.
  • Money Minders (6:00 – 6:30 P.M.)
    Children will enjoy money-related stories and games, practice making financial choices and use play money to “purchase” a light snack. Parents learn how to develop their child’s financial vocabulary, establish good financial habits early on, and encourage thinking about earning, saving and philanthropy.  For children ages 4 and older.

The WaterStone Bank & FOX 6 Neighborhood Nights at the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum take place every third Thursday of the month.

Betty Brinn Free Admission to Valentine’s Ice Cream Social

The Betty Brinn Children’s Museum will be hosting their annual Valentine Ice Cream Social on February 13, 2010 from  11:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M.  You can get free admission to Betty Brinn courtesy of Sendik’s Food Market (Balistreri Owned & Operated – Elm Grove, Franklin, Germantown, Grafton, Greenfield, Mequon, Wauwatosa or Whitefish Bay).  To get free admission, bring a receipt from Sendik’s dated January 25th and later showing the purchase of any of the following products:

  • Loaf of Breadsmith bread
  • Cedar Crest 48-oz. ice cream
  • Half-gallon of Golden Guernsey chocolate milk or Dean’s strawberry milk
  • Palermo’s Primo Thin or Rustico Pizza
  • Any Sargento item

Throughout the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum there will be free samples from the event sponsors, including bread from Breadsmith, Golden Guernsey Dairy milk, pizza from Palermo’s and cheese from Sargento. You can also build your own ice cream sundae with Cedar Crest Ice Cream.  In addition to the food, there will be special activities, games and prizes.  Everything is included with your admission.  Check out the Betty Brinn website for more details.

Free Museum Admissions on September 26th

museumday-logo-2009Smithsonian Magazine is sponsoring Museum Day on Saturday, September 26th, and offering free admission to hundreds of museums nationwide.  In the Milwaukee area, the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum and the Haggerty Museum of Art on the Marquette University campus are participating.  To gain free admission, visit the Museum Day website and fill out the form to receive free general admission for 2 people.

There are several other Wisconsin museums participating Museum Day including the Circus World Museum in Baraboo and the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc.

Betty Brinn LogoBetty Brinn Children’s Museum is open from Noon to 5pm on Sunday, September 13th.  Since the 13th is Grandparents Day, Grandparents receive FREE admission!

At 2pm, kids can meet child favorite Junie B. Jones!  According to the Betty Brinn special events webpage:

At 2 p.m., meet the one and only Junie B. Jones and get an exclusive sneak peek at the First Stage Children’s Theater production of “Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business!” Find out how Grandma’s nickname for Junie’s new baby brother, “Little Monkey,” sets up a series of hilarious misunderstandings. Enjoy a brief performance of songs from the show, followed by the opportunity for a photo and autograph with Junie B. hersefl! All day long, families can visit the Artist’s Studio to create a mini-scrapbook as a souvenir of their day at the Museum together.

Milwaukee Area Freebies for Dad on Father’s Day

Father’s Day is Sunday, and there are plenty of things to do with dad around town for free.

  • The Milwaukee County Zoo has free admission for dad from 9:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M.  Scheduled is a craft activity for kids to make their dad something special. 
  • The Milwaukee Public Museum is offering free admission for dad from 10:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M.
  • Discovery World Museum is offering free admission for dad from 10:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M.
  • The Betty Brinn Children’s Mueseum has free admission for dad from 12:00 noon. until 5:00 P.M.  There are craft activities scheduled for kids to make their dad a card and a special coupon book. 
  • Several Milwaukee County Parks golf courses are offering a free round golf for dad after 1:00 P.M. and with the purchase of a second round.  Participating courses are:  Brown Deer Park, Currie Park, Dretzka Park, Grant Park, Greenfield Park, Lincoln Park, Oakwood Park, and Whitnall Park.
  • Polish Fest (which is American’s largest Polish festival, by the way) will be offering free admission to dads from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.  In addition, kids under the age of 15 are free when accompanied by an adult.
  • Wings Over Waukesha is taking place this weekend, and admission is free for everyone.  The historic military aircraft event runs between 9:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. from June 19th through June 21st.
