Foursquare, a rapidly growing social networking website, has teamed up with Starbucks to offer $1 off any Frappuccino blended beverage of any size and any flavor.  The deal is on through June 28th.  However, the catch is a user must be the Mayor of the Starbucks store in order to enjoy the discount.  Let us explain.

What is Foursquare?

Foursquare states they are a “cross between a friend-finder, a social city-guide and a game that rewards you for doing interesting things.  We aim to build things to not only help you keep up with the places your friends go, but that encourage you to discover new places and challenge you to explore your neighborhood in new ways.”

How does Foursquare work?

Users “check in” at a location by using their smartphone or sending a text from their cell phone.  After checking in, Foursquare awards points and occasional “badges” to users.  If a user has checked-in to a location more than anyone else, they will become Mayor of that location.

For Example…

The Foursquare webpage for the Starbucks located at Farwell and Brady Street in Milwaukee shows over 300 check-ins and 100 visitors to date.  The page displays the  Frappuccino discount promotion that Starbucks has for the Mayor of the store, a map of the location, and comments from users with advice or observations about the location.

Expect to see more local and nationwide businesses using Foursquare and other location based services in the near future to reward loyal customers and to attract new customers too.
