At Milwaukee Consumer we’re big fans of Google technology. Earlier this month Google announced that they are testing Google Voice, which is a free application to help you better manage your voice communications.

While this technology isn’t for everyone, it has the potential to save people who are frequent users of cellphones and SMS text messaging a lot of money. Or, if you are a business owner it has the potential to make you more efficient and cut your costs.

At this time Google Voice isn’t available to the public, but it will be released soon.   Here is a sampling of features for Google Voice:

  • Google number – one number for all your calls and SMS text messages
  • Call screening
  • Listen to voicemail messages as they are being recorded, and pick up the call whenever you want
  • Voicemail
  • Voicemail transcripts
  • Personalize greetings (vary greetings by caller)
  • Conference calling
  • Call record – record your phone conversations and store them online

Google has put together some short videos (most under one minute each) that demonstrate the features of Google Voice.  To receive an invitation from Google when Google Voice is available, leave your name and email with Google here.
