flickr - photo8As we wrote in July, the US Department of Energy announced a $300 million program for energy efficient applicances.  Since October 15th was the deadline for states to apply to the program, Consumer Reports wrote this excellent FAQ on their blog.   At this time we aren’t aware of any details for Wisconsin, but we’ll keep you updated.  In the meantime, if you are going to be in the market for a new appliance such as a dishwasher, refrigerator, furnace, air conditioner, etc., read the Consumer Reports FAQ to get familiar with the background of this program.  While we don’t know the appliances that would be available under the Wisconsin program, it may pay for you to be prepared since it is possible the funds might not last very long.

In the meantime, if you are looking for current rebate opportunities, check out our post on Focus on Energy Rebates.

  2. If I buy an energy star appliance now, will I still get the rebate when the “cash for clunkers appliances” goes into effect?

  4. According to Energy Star, it is unlikely that the rebates will be retroactive. However, it is up to each state how to apply the funds. States may start implementing these programs as early as December 2009; however, it sounds like early 2010 is a more likely scenario.
