Use your cellphone to save money

If you own a smartphone (iPhone, Blackberry, Treo, etc…) there are a lot of great ways you can use it to save money and make smart purchasing decisions.   We’ll cover various methodologies in future content, but today we’d like to focus on mobile coupons.

Cellfire is a company that publishes mobile coupons.  If you are an iPhone user, you can download a Cellfire App for free from the ITunes App Store.  At the time of this posting, Cellfire doesn’t have a lot of mobile coupons available.  However, as more consumers adopt smartphone technology, Cellfire will probably have more coupons online.  Using a mobile coupon is easy – just show the cashier at the business the mobile coupon on your phone.  There is no need to print the coupon, remember a coupon code, or do anything else.  At this time the following mobile coupons are available in the Milwaukee area:

  • Game Stop (20% off used games; 30% extra credit for trade in of 2 games)
  • Hollywood Video (rent 1 video or game, get 1 free; buy 1 used DVD, get 1 free)
  • Sears Portrait Studio (36 portraits for $9.99; Free 10×13 wall portrait – a $34.98 value. No purchase necessary!)
  • Caribou Coffee (Free drink – any size, any kind! – with purchase of 1 lb. Caribou coffee beans)
  • EMI Music (one free song download online)
  • 1-800-flowers.com (15% off any purchase or $5 off any $39.99 purchase)

Do you use your iPhone, or similar device, to help you save money when shopping?  If so, please leave a comment and share your advice with our community.
