Cash for Clunkers Program Suspended?

cash for clunkersFox News has published an AP story that the Car Allowance Rebate System (“Cash for Clunkers” program) will be suspended by the Department of Transportation. According to the article, there is a possibility that auto dealers may have already surpassed the 250,000 vehicle sales funded by the $1 billion program.

A visit to the official CARS website – www.cars.gov -doesn’t mention the suspension yet.  If you were considering buying a car in the near future and taking advantage of a $3,500 or $4,500 rebate, it looks like you might be too late!  We suggest keeping an eye on the official website for the latest information on the program.

Update – Click here to see our post on 2010 admission promotions.

The Wisconsin State Fair starts in just over a week and runs for 11 days from August 6 – 16.  There are several opportunities for free or reduced admission if you plan ahead.  The regular ticket prices for the 2009 Fair are as follows:

  • Adult (12 & over) - $9
  • Seniors (60 & over) & Disabled Persons – $6
  • Youth (ages 7-11) – $4
  • Children (6 & under) – FREE

Parking on the Fair grounds is $10.  Street parking is available in the neighborhoods surrounding State Fair Park, however it usually isn’t easy finding a place to park for free on the street.  You can typically find a lawn to park on for $5 or so within a couple blocks of an entrance.

Advance Ticket Promotions

The best way to get discounted or free tickets is to get them in advance of the Fair.  Getting a free ticket can be as easy as buying a case of beer, or going to a Brewers game.

Budweiser Ticket offer

Purchase a case of Budweiser or Bud Light beer, or 2 – 12 packs of Bud Light Lime and receive a free State Fair ticket from participating retail stores while supplies last.  Since participation in this offer is dependent on the retailer participating, it may not be available everywhere.  This offer expires on July 31st.

Miller High Life Ticket Offer

Purchase a case of Miller High Life or Miller High Life Light and receive a free State Fair ticket from participating retail stores while supplies last.  Again, since participation in this offer is dependent on the retailer participating, it may not be available everywhere.  This offer expires on July 31st.

Mike’s Hard Lemonade Ticket Offer

Purchase 24 bottles of Mike’s Hard Lemonade and receive a free State Fair Ticket from participating retail stores while supplies last.  Mike’s Hard Lemonade is sold in 6 packs and 12 packs.  A 12 pack is a little cheaper than 2 – 6 packs, so the best value would be to buy 2 – 12 packs to get a free ticket.  This offer expires on July 31st.

Coca-Cola & El Rey Food Marts

Specially marked Coke products sold at El Rey Food Marts offer free admission tickets to the Wisconsin State Fair.  This offer expires on July 31st.

Milwaukee Brewers / Wisconsin State Fair Doubleheader Deal

For just $24 you can get 2 Terrace Reserved tickets to the August 28th game vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates and 2 tickets to the State Fair.  For more information about this promotion, check out our earlier post.  This offer expires on July 31st.

Summer Reading Program

Receive a coupon for a free youth ticket (ages 7-11) valid with the purchase of second admission of greater or equal value by completing the Summer Reading Program at 13 City of Milwaukee libraries, 14 suburban Milwaukee libraries, or one of the 16 Waukesha County libraries. Contact your local library for more details.

Discount Admission Promotions During the Fair

Hunger Task Force $2 Day – August 6th

On opening day, August 6th, receive $2 admission with a donation of 2 non-perishable food items or a cash donation.  This offer is valid from 8:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. at designated locations outside the Fair gates.

Illinois Day – August 7th

On Friday August 7th, Illinois residents can get 2 admission tickets for $10 by showing an Illinois drivers license at the ticket windows.

Sprecher Brewing Company / 96.5 WKLH Day – August 10th

On Monday, August 10th, receive $3 off admission from 8:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. by presenting a coupon from Sprecher Brewing.  The coupon can be found on the Sprecher website.

Salute to Wisconsin Scouts Day – August 12th

On Wednesday, August 12th, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts dressed in uniform will get free admission and Scout leaders dressed in uniform will receive $2 off regular admission.

Military Discount – Every Day

Veteran and active duty military personnel will receive $3 off admission before 3:00 P.M. any day of the Wisconsin State Fair. Coupons for discounted admission are available at Wisconsin Wal-mart stores.  Coupons may be redeemed at any of the Fair admission gates and are valid any day of the Fair.

For full disclosure on these promotions and the most complete information on the Wisconsin State Fair, visit the official Wisconsin State Fair website.

Restaurant.com 80% off Sale Ends Today

***Update.  The sale has been extended to 7/31.  Click on the link below and use the promotional code listed to take advantage of this great offer for a couple more days!

rdc_h-type-tag_348_2393

The Restaurant.com 80% off sale is coming to an end today.  As we previously wrote about, you can get $25 gift certificates to some great Milwaukee area restaurants for just $2 when you use the discount code NAPKIN, through today.  This promotion is very popular, and many of the gift certificates to participating restaurants are sold out.

We’ll let you in on a secret that most Restaurant.com customers don’t know about.  If a restaurant that you want is sold out, you can still get certificates for 80% off.  How?  Just buy a gift certificate to Restaurant.com (as opposed to buying a gift certificate for a particular restaurant).  When gift certificate inventories are replenished (usually within a couple of weeks), redeem your Restaurant.com gift certificate to purchase a gift certificate for the restaurant of your choice.  It works!

You can also do a similar trick by signing up for the Dinner of the Month Club.  With this option you get 6 or 12 gift certificates that can be redeemed for popular restaurants down the road.  The nice thing about the Dinner of the Month club is that you get bonus gift certificates when you sign up for the 6 and 12 month options.  When you go with the 6 month option, you get 6 – $25 gift certificates plus an extra bonus $25 gift certificate, all for only $12.  If you select 12 months, you get 12 – $25 gift certificates plus an extra bonus $50 gift certificate, for just $24.

Each of the participating restaurants has restrictions, such as minimum purchase amounts and days that the gift certificates can be used.  Make sure to read the details for the restaurant you’re considering before making your purchase.

MorningStar Golfers Club, Waukesha.  Two rounds of golf plus cart ($120 value) for $60.  On sale Monday morning at 8:00.

The Bull at Pinehurst Farms, Sheboygan Falls.  Two rounds of golf plus cart ($250 value) for $125.  On sale Thursday at Noon.

The Bull at Pinehurst Farms, Sheboygan Falls.  One round of golf ($95 value) for $47.50.  On sale Friday at Noon.

The courses offered, prices and on sale dates are the same on all of them.  Most of the offers allow you to buy more than one gift certificate.  Check the restrictions for each sale before purchasing.
