Interested In Selling Gold In Milwaukee? Tips From Aqua Owl Gold

March 30, 2009 by Milwaukee Consumer · Leave a Comment

aqua-owl-1Recently we wrote about the hot trend to sell unwanted gold and how several local jewelers were advertising to buy gold and diamonds in the Milwaukee area.  Carole Ross from Aqua Owl Gold read our post and left a comment inviting readers to check out their business.  And so we did!

Aqua Owl Gold is a business owned by Carole and her husband, Ed, that works with hosts in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois to conduct parties where guests sell their unwanted gold.  We followed up with Carole and asked her if she’d mind sharing some of her expertise with our readers in the Milwaukee area who may be interested in selling their gold.  Here are some great nuggets we picked up from Carole:

  • Look for items around your house that aren’t useful to you – for example, gold chains that are kinked, class rings, out of style jewelry, lost pairs of earrings, old gold watches, and even gold teeth!
  • If you have any doubt if something you own contains gold, it doesn’t hurt to have someone take a look at it.  Carole said that they can quickly tell if something is gold or not.  One of the tests they use is to put the gold piece up to a magnet.  If it sticks, then it’s not gold (gold is not magnetic).
  • Don’t just go to one place to sell your gold in Milwaukee.  If you have the time to see what others are buying for, take the time to check around.  If you are invited to a party and you’re doubting the fairness of the price, take it to someone else if you’re not comfortable.  Carole said that she and her husband regularly shop gold around Milwaukee in order to try to pay top dollar.
  • If you are considering selling gold jewelry that has sentimental value to you, take some time to think about the transaction.
  • Recycling unwanted gold is a “green” business.  (There are several environmental concerns with mining gold, including the use of cyanide to dissolve and extract gold.)

Carole had a great story about one party they were at.  The host threw a couples party and a neighbor showed up for the party without any gold.  After getting a better idea of what the party was all about, he left the party to get some unwanted gold at his house.  When he showed up with gold watches and his gold chains he used to wear back in the 80′s, everyone started to join in the fun!  The guests were having fun guessing how much money he’d get for his gold.  Turns out he walked away with $660!

Interested in hosting a party?

Visit Aqua Owl Gold’s website and take a look around.  Then contact Carole or her husband, Ed, at 414-313-4902 to discuss the details.  Keep in mind:

  • The host receives 10% of the total amount Aqua Owl Gold pays out to party guests.
  • The host receives $50 for any referral parties booked (payable after the referral party occurs).
  • The host gives all names and addresses to Aqua Owl Gold. Aqua Owl Gold takes care of the invitations.
  • The host monitors the RSVP’s to plan accordingly for food and drink.
  • Aqua Owl Gold routinely shops gold around the Milwaukee area to try to make sure are paying the best prices.  They are able to pay high prices for gold because their overhead is low and they buy unwanted gold in large quantities.

Journal Sentinel Sunday Paper Highlights – March 29, 2009

One of the best deals around Milwaukee is the home delivery of the Sunday Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. You can easily recover the cost of the paper by using a few coupons each week, not to mention all the value you receive from the articles and advertisements in the paper.  (26 weeks of the Sunday paper costs $52.)  Each week we’ll post some of the best deals we think we saw in the most recent Sunday paper. We know value is in the eye of the beholder, so we’d love to see you submit a comment with the best values you think are advertised in the Sunday paper.

Notable coupons and sales this week:

  • Michaels 40% off coupon for one item
  • Jo-Ann Fabrics 40% off coupon for one item
  • Sports Authority $25 off purchase greater than $100
  • Laacke & Joys is advertising their Spring Patio Sale which starts April 2nd and goes through April 12th.  There are coupons for $100 or $200 off casual furniture, a free umbrella, and free seat cushions.  The Laacke & Joys website also has coupons.
  • A Walmart ad on the back page of the USA Weekend section highlights Walmart’s 30 day prescriptions for $4, 90 day prescriptions for $10, and 100′s of over the counter drugs for $4 or less.  More information can be found at Walmart’s pharmacy webpage
  • If you’re an iTunes user, you’ll like the deal at Toys R Us.  You can save $5 on all iTunes gift card multipacks.  The ad shows a multipack as three $10 iTunes gift certificates.  This is a way to save 16% off your iTunes purchases.  This is also perfect timing for the new iTunes pricing structure that Apple is releasing on April 7th.  (We’ll post more on this topic later in the near future.)
  • One trend in today’s advertisements is retailers claiming that they’ve lowered prices on hundreds of  items.  Both Lowes and Office Max are making this claim.

What deals or coupons do you think are notable in today’s paper?  Please leave a comment!
