Seize The Days Sale at IKEA

This weeks Red Plum mailing has an offer for IKEA on the front page.  I was rather surprised to get an advertisement for a store that is about 90 minutes away from me and most other Milwaukee area consumers. Ikea is advertising a “Seize the Days” sale from Friday, January 30 to Sunday, February 1.

Ikea can be a fun shopping trip for those of us in the Milwaukee area.  The closest IKEA store is in Schaumburg, Illinois, which is about an hour and a half from the heart of Milwaukee.  Our family has enjoyed a few road trips down to the Schaumburg Ikea to enjoy their good food and to pick up some childrens furniture.  Their food is priced reasonably and is quite tasty, especially their Swedish meatballs.  There are plenty of options to make it a fun trip since the store is located just North of Woodfield Mall and there are also some great restaurants nearby

The Red Plum mailing has a coupon for free breakfast until 10:30am  (valid Fri, Sat, Sun; limit 1 per customer; offer valid for one small breakfast (value 99 cents) and the offer is not valid at IKEA Hicksville, IKEA Houston, IKEA Pittsburgh, and IKEA Direct).

Friday’s special is a standard down pillow for $9.99 each (regularly $29.99 to $49.99).  Saturday’s sale is a queen sized mattress set for $399.  For more information, see the offers at the Schaumberg IKEA website.

Soup & Salad Lunch Deals at Milwaukee Restaurants

The Metro Milwaukee Today blog recently had an interesting post about unlimited soup & salad lunch deals at area restaurants.  The blogger noted a new trend to add these options to the menu at restaurants like TGI Friday’s and Chili’s.  Although not mentioned in the Metro Milwaukee Today blog post, the Olive Garden has been offering this option at lunch for years.  For $6 or so, it can make for a great dining out value.  Not to mention that soups and salads are generally healthier choices than burgers or entrees.

Cable and Phone rates are negotiable!

Here is a good reminder to call your cable, satellite, or telcom provider to make sure you are getting the best pricing available for your product.  The Wall Street Journal published an article yesterday that profiled a consumer who called AT&T hoping for a 10% discount for his services and ended up with a 50% discount!

Time Warner Cable, the major cable provider in the Milwaukee Metro area, is profiled in the article as well.  Their spokesman is quoted as saying “The key is to hang on to every possible customer right now”.

To help get you pointed in the right direction, here’s a link to Time Warner Cable Wisconsin.

Don’t forget this advice applies whether you have high cable, satellite, internet, or telephone bills!  Make that call today and make sure you have the best rate possible.  Also, if you had a promotional price in the past, or do receive one, make sure you monitor when it expires and start shopping around that time.

Kmart is doubling coupons again this week.  They changed the daily limit of doubled coupons per customer to 25 (previously it was 75).  You can double coupons up to $2 in face value.  The last time Kmart did this, we were able to get $75 worth of merchandise for $12.  A little preparation is necessary before heading to the store.  For a list of many of the good deals available, check out the Bargain Briana Blog.

Circuit City liquidation sale

On January 16th Circuit City stated they would be closing all of their stores and eliminating all jobs.  Consequently, the company has begun liquidation sales.  A great consumer oriented blog, www.consumerist.com , has a great FAQ for those of you who are interested in the liquidation sale.  In a nutshell, The Consumerist warns that liquidation sales typically aren’t good deals for consumers since the liquidator typically marks the merchandise up to its original price and then starts the markdown process.

For more details on Circuit City’s closing, visit their website.

There are two Circuit City stores in the Milwaukee area – one in Greenfield on 76th Street (just South of 894), and one in Brookfield in the shopping center North of Brookfield Square.
